Ranchi Sadar Subdivision is an important administrative subdivision of Ranchi district, Jharkhand, located in the South Chotanagpur Division. Its headquarters is Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand. The subdivision combines urban development with rural landscapes, forests, hills, rivers, waterfalls and rich tribal culture.

Geography

Ranchi Sadar lies mainly across the Ranchi Plateau, part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The region features hills, forests, valleys, rivers and scenic waterfalls. The average elevation of much of the Ranchi Plateau is around 2,140 feet above sea level.

Important rivers and water bodies associated with the subdivision include the Subarnarekha, Damodar, Koel, Bhairavi, Kanchi and Raru rivers, along with Getalsud Dam.

Administration

Ranchi Sadar is one of the two subdivisions of Ranchi district. The other is Bundu Subdivision.

The headquarters of Ranchi Sadar Subdivision is Ranchi city. According to the current Ranchi district administration, the subdivision has 14 Community Development (CD) Blocks.
